A Liar & A Doctor. What Do They Have in Common? Not What You Think.

Action Double Feature issue #2  Published by Four Star Studios

Review by Shaun Daniels and Edited by Sharon Wong

When we heard that issue #2 of Action Double Feature may or may not feature The Answer or Jack Kraken, we were skeptical.  After reading the latest installment, we were surprised to say the least.  What put us at ease was Gabriel Hardman’s art for “The Liar” and the fun, stylized art of Andy Kuhn in “Dr. Good & Space Boy.”

The Liar by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko

The story follows hard-nosed spy Vera Brant aka The Liar as she embarks on a dangerous mission that brings a whole new meaning to the word bioterrorisim.  After a man spontaneously explodes, Vera is sent into investigate with accompanying action, explosions and big globs of flesh.  Bechko and Hardman pack a lot of story and ideas in eight pages and in few words.  Hardman creates action so fluid and effortless with the highlight being the explosions, which seem to explode out of the panel.

Dr. Good and Spaceboy by Shannon Eric Denton and Andy Kuhn

Dr. Good is the superhero do-gooder of Asteroid City, his partner and nephew is Spaceboy.  To call the duo good at fighting crime would be an understatement, but it’s better to be lucky than good and this duo is definitely lucky.  With a giant monster and a mad scientist on the loose, Dr. Good and Spaceboy dispatch the villains but not in the conventional way one might think.  The writing is solid, and balances the comedy and the action seamlessly with neither genre outweighing the other.  Meanwhile, Kuhn’s cartoonish style adds much to the fun the story.

Once again, Action Feature continues the digital awesomeness that is Double Feature, and all for $.99.
