10.21-23.2011: What To Watch – Theater Edition

Halloween is just around the corner and so are horror movies like this week’s premiere…boo!

Paranormal Activity 3 (R / 84 mins / 2D).  Starring Katie Featherston (Psychic Experiment), Sprague Graydon (TV’s 24), Lauren Bittner (The Mighty Macs), Brian Boland (The Unborn), Jessica Tyler Brown (TV’s Hawthorne), Chloe Csengery (TV’s Up All Night), Mark Fredrichs (TV’s Emerald Nights [pilot]), Dustin Ingram (Meet Monica Velour) and Christopher Nicholas Smith (TV’s Fake It Til You Make It).  Written by Christopher B. Landon (Disturbia).  Executive Produced by Akiva Goldsman (TV’s Fringe).  Produced by Jason Blum, Oren Peli and Steven Schneider (all three of Insidious).  Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (both of Catfish).

The paranormal returns for a third time but this story unfolds 18 years prior to the first two films, Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2.  After the success of the $3 million sequel in 2010 with a worldwide box office of $177.512 million (the first was an indie budgeted with only $15,000 and grossed $193.355 million worldwide), the supernatural horror prequel was greenlit.  Most of the cast and crew have returned for the feature which is using social media like Twitter to market the movie.

Synopsis:  In 1988, young sisters Katie (Featherston) and Kristi (Graydon) befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.
