11.18-20.2011: What To Watch – Weekend Theater and TV Edition

WARNING: If you want to survive the beginning of the end of the Twilight saga, avoid all movie theaters this weekend unless you’re a Twilighter.  For the rest of us, it’s horror/fantasy/sci-fi Friday with a little zombie Sunday on the couch.

THEATER PREMIERE

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (PG-13 / 117 mins / In 2D).  Starring Kristen Stewart (The Runaways), Robert Pattinson (Water for Elephants), Taylor Lautner (Abduction), Billy Burke (Red Riding Hood), Peter Facinelli (TV’s Nurse Jackie), Elizabeth Reaser (The Art of Getting By), Jackson Rathbone (facebook’s Aim High), Nikki Reed (Privileged), Ashley Greene (Butter) and Kellan Lutz (Immortals).  Written by Melissa Rosenberg (TV’s Dexter).  Directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls).

The fourth and final installment of author and producer Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel, Breaking Dawn, is much like the seventh and final Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as the book-turned-film received the split treatment.  The first part of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn will tell of Bella’s journey from wedding to honeymoon to pregnancy to childbirth while the second part will tell of Bella’s transformation from human to vampire.

Like the first three films (Twilight, Eclipse and New Moon), Part 1 was written by Melissa Rosenberg with studio Summit Entertainment hiring a new director once again.  Director Bill Condon, known for adult dramas Gods and Monsters and Kinsey, felt a “connection to the material” and was chosen to direct both parts back-to-back.  The movie was filmed in Louisiana, Rio de Janiero and the island of St. Thomas under heavy security, especially the wedding scene between Edward and Bella which required a helicopter and police.  Nevertheless, photos and videos were leaked featuring different scenes; an investigation into the leaks is ongoing.

Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is scheduled to be released on Friday, November 16th, 2012.

Synopsis:  Bella (Stewart) and Edward (Pattinson), plus those they love, must deal with the chain of consequences brought on by a marriage, honeymoon, and the tumultuous birth of a child…which brings an unforeseen and shocking development for Jacob Black (Lautner).
