Calling in the Big Guns for Free Comic Book Day

Written by Shaun Daniels and Edited by Sharon Wong

May 5th, 2012 may be five months away but the news of Dark Horse ComicsFree Comic Book Day offering of four stories in two flip books has us counting down the days (155 as of the publication date).  What pray tell is the cause for the interwebs to buzz, and the all hot and bothered geeks?  Let’s just say it’s a few sci-fi, horror and fantasy stories known as Star Wars, Serenity, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Guild.  Dark Horse, you had us at…Hello!

First up are the two sci-fi heavy hitters, Star Wars and Serenity, written by none other than Zack Whedon.  Han Solo and Chewbacca are no strangers to the seedy underbelly of the galaxy, they were smugglers before joining the rebellion after all.  After a deal goes awry with a very shady customer, things go from bad to worst, and it’s up to Han and Chewie to save their fat from the fire and the Millenium Falcon.  On the flipside, Captain Mal is no stranger to the space shit hitting the space fan.  Hell, that’s a day in the life of Mal and the crew of the Serenity.  This time it will take the whole crew and all of their unique talents to save their collective hides.

Second up is the combination of fan favorite Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the mega-hit web series turned comic book The Guild.  Buffy is in desperate need of a little R&R, especially after the end of season eight, so an old friend suggests a break from all the Big Bads of the world.  She learns a day off is not as easy as saying “take a day off” in a world overrun by zombies and things that go bump in the night.  On the other side, Felicia Day makes with the funny with her creation, The Guild.  The story is full of gamer goodness and of course, all the usual ‘life as a gamer’ things.  The Guilders struggle to find a meeting place but after the typical in game fighting, hijinks ensue.
