Supernatural and Steel will have us fighting for frights in front of the TV with two DVD/Blu-ray releases!

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011 / R / 83 mins) on DVD and 2-Disc Unrated Director’s Cut Blu-ray + DVD Combo with Digital Copy in DVD or Blu-ray Packaging.  Starring Katie Featherston (Paranormal Activity), Sprague Graydon (TV’s 24), Lauren Bittner (The Mighty Macs), Brian Boland (The Unborn), Jessica Tyler Brown (TV’s Happy Endings), Chloe Csengery (TV’s Up All Night), Mark Fredrichs (TV’s Emerald Nights [pilot]), Dustin Ingram (Meet Monica Velour) and Christopher Nicholas Smith (TV’s Fake It Til You Make It).  Written by Christopher B. Landon (Disturbia).  Executive Produced by Akiva Goldsman (TV’s Fringe).  Produced by Jason Blum (Insidious), Oren Peli (TV’s The River) and Steven Schneider (The Devil Inside).  Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (both of Catfish).

Paranormal Activity 3, the third film and first prequel for the Paranormal Activity franchise, continued to freak out audiences with its supernatural horror on only a $5 million budget.  It opened up at $52.568 million, besting 2010’s Paranormal Activity 2‘s $40.678 million opening and breaking records including the best opening for a horror movie.  It eventually grossed $104.028 million domestically and $99.119 million internationally after 11 weekends at the box office but was unable to surpass the original’s worldwide total (adjusted gross) of $112.593 million.  A fourth Paranormal Activity was announced by Paramount Pictures, to be directed by PA3‘s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman.

Synopsis:  In 1988, young sisters Katie (Featherston) and Kristi (Graydon) befriend an invisible entity who resides in their home.

Real Steel (2011 / PG-13 / 127 mins) on DVD, 2-Disc Blu-ray + DVD Combo and 3-Disc Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy Combo.  Starring Hugh Jackman (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Dakota Goyo (Thor), Evangeline Lilly (TV’s Lost), Anthony Mackie (Man on a Ledge), Kevin Durand (I Am Number Four) and Hope Davis (TV’s Mildred Pierce).  Story by Dan Gilroy (Two for the Money) and Jeremy Leven (My Sister’s Keeper).  Screenplay by John Gatins (Coach Carter).  Executive Produced by Steven Spielberg (TV’s Terra Nova) and Robert Zemeckis (Mars Needs Moms).  Directed by Shawn Levy (Date Night).

Real Steel was all steel on the outside but all heart on the inside.  Shawn Levy’s $110 million sci-fi drama used 26.5 live-action robots and computer-generated robots only when necessary like in fighting scenes.  The twice-ranked #1 movie grossed $27.319 million in its first box office weekend and $295.255 million worldwide, $210 million of it internationally.  On the same day as Real Steel‘s DVD/Blu-ray release, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects (Erik Nash, John Rosengrant, Dan Taylor and Swen Gillberg).  Dreamworks has announced the development of a Real Steel sequel with John Gatins to write the script.

Synopsis:  Set in the near-future where the sport of boxing has gone high-tech, Charlie Kenton (Jackman) is a washed-up fighter who lost his chance at a title when 2000-pound, 8-foot-tall steel robots took over the ring.  Now nothing but a small-time promoter, Charlie earns just enough money piecing together low-end bots from scrap metal to get from one underground boxing venue to the next.  When Charlie hits rock bottom, he reluctantly teams up with his estranged son Max (Goyo) to build and train a championship contender.  As the stakes in the brutal, no-holds-barred arena are raised, Charlie and Max, against all odds, get one last shot at a comeback.  courtesy of DreamWorks Studios
