A Grimm Future

NBC has ordered a second season for the freshman genre/procedural Grimm and so the show will be getting a full 22-episode pick up for its sophomore season.  The peacock network had released the news of the renewal hot on the heels of CBS renewing 13 shows for for the Fall 2012 season.  Grimm is slated to return next year on its regular Friday night time slot.
Traditionally, Friday night has been the Florida of time slots, or the place TV shows go to die.  Grimm, on the other hand, has quietly built both viewership and a dedicated fan base on Friday nights.  The show has been pulling in around 5 million viewers on average and has been slowly increasing viewership in small quantities.  It follows Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who is the last in the lineage of the Grimm family…yes, the very same Grimms that wrote the fairytales.  The Grimms’ job was to keep the balance between the things that go bump in the night and humans.  Included in those things that go bump in the night is a Wieder Blutbad, or the Big Bad Wolf, played by Silas Weir Mitchell.  This Big Bad Wolf is friendly, a vegetarian, and even helps Burkhardt solve Grimm-related crimes.  Burkhardt operates in both worlds, keeping the unknowing humans safe from the mythical creatures and vice versa.  Grimm also star Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch and Sasha Roiz, and can be seen on NBC on Fridays at 9/8c, right after shuffleboard.
