Guns, Stepford Wives & Albinos…It Must Be Comic Book Quickies!

Quickies by Shaun Daniels and Edited by Sharon Wong

Skullkickers Issue 14

Written by Jim Zub, Line Art by Edwin Huang, Colors by Misty Coats & Ross Campbell, Art Assists by Ludwig Olimba, Letters by Marshall Dillon and Published by Image Comics. Retail Price $3.50

If you, like us, ever wondered why Baldy packed the only gun in the Skullkickers world, issue 14 will answer, or at least start to answer, that very question.  The book delves into the origin of Baldy and his original battle with the monster at the end of the previous issue.  We also see Baldy in a different light, complete with flowing locks of hair.  There is no possible way anyone saw issue 14 coming, and if you did, you should become a professional gambler because you made the call of a lifetime.  There is certainly more to this story of the gun and it will undoubtedly pay off in the next few issues (sorry for the vagueness but publisher Image Comics and creator/writer Jim Zub were very clear about not spoiling this issue).  Issue 14 also features amazing art by Huang, Coats, Campbell and Olimba with lettering by the best in the business, Marshall Dillon.  Read it or else!!!!!

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 Issue 9

Written by Andrew Chambliss & Scott Allie, Pencils by Cliff Richards, Inks by Andy Owens, Colors by Michelle Madsen, Letters by Richard Starking & Comicraft’s Jimmy Betancourt, Covers by Phil Noto and Georges Jeanty with Dexter Vines & Michelle Madsen and Published by Dark Horse Comics. Retail Price $2.99

Over the last couple of issues, Buffy’s been going through an identity crisis of sorts.  It’s actually less of an identity crisis and more like Andrew building a robot duplicate of her crisis.  To take it one step further, the robot duplicate believes she’s the “real” Buffy while the real Buffy was turned into a Stepford Wife.  Robo-Buffy, Spike and Andrew are off to find Stepford Buffy after she was kidnapped by someone from her past.  At the same time, Zander and Dawn are trying to clean up the Zompire (half zombie, half vampire) mess but things get even messier.  The issue ends on a Buffy on Buffy moment but not quite in the erotic fan fiction type of way.

Alabaster Wolves Issue 2 of 5

Written by Caitlín R. Kiernan, Art by Steve Lieber, Colors by Rachelle Rosenberg, Cover by Greg Ruth, and Published by Dark Horse Comics. Retail Price $3.99

Dancy is for the first time without the guidance of her Angel and all alone in the godforsaken town.  Fancying herself as a person still of faith, she makes her way to a church but is disgusted by the blasphemy taking place within its walls.  Although Dancy manages to dispatch the evil, sans aid of a higher power, she is rendered unconscious in the melee.  As the church burns around her, she is miraculously saved by the last person you would expect.  Alabaster Wolves is a world you don’t want to visit, it’s a place you want to read about on a dark and stormy night.
