Kristen Stewart’s Snow White bit into the poisonous apple of Charlize Theron’s Queen Ravenna and MIB3‘s weekend box office.  Snow White and the Huntsman shattered the mirror as in Mirror Mirror, premiering at #1 with $56.217 million which is just a few million shy from the first Snow White of 2012’s 10-weekend domestic gross of $62.911 million.  The $170 million movie opened at 3,773 theaters, appealing to a wide audience of which 52% were aged 30 years and older. Though not July 4th but Memorial Day weekend, Will Smith rejoined the summer movie season with a sequel ten years in the making.  Agents J (Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin), the men in Men in Black III, fought the aliens to win against The Avengers‘ Hulk, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and Captain America.  The superheroes fell to the fellow Earth-saving duo yet they continued to dominate over second weekenders #3 Battleship ($11.05 million) and #4 The Dictator ($9.276 million), and the just released Chernobyl Diaries in the top five of the weekend box office. 05.4-6.2012: Weekend Box Office – The $

After two weekends of Think(ing) Like a Man, audiences were thinking superheroes.  Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Joss Whedon brought together Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye to form the superhero team and the #1 movie The Avengers.  The action-adventure with a bit of sci-fi film crushed Loki and the nine top ten movies including Think Like a Man.  Steve Harvey’s non-fiction book turned romantic comedy fell to #2 and -54%, earning $8.106 million in its third weekend at 2,010 theaters.

04.27-29.2012: Weekend Box Office – The $

Audiences are thinking…thinking like a man.  Think Like a Man braved men, women and four new but very different films, including Safe, to be #1 again at the weekend box office.  The Tim Story-directed movie grossed $17.604 million, adding to the comedy’s total domestic gross of $60.472 million (it will be released overseas throughout the summer, starting in June).  Think Like a Man‘s current domestic total is five times the movie’s production budget of $12 million. 04.20-22.2012: Weekend Box Office – The $

The battle of the sexes ended with man.  Steve Harvey’s The New York Times best-selling book, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, turned movie, #1 Think Like a Man, played women vs. men and then men vs women to #1.  Attracting audiences, female (63%) and over 30 years of age (62%), the ensemble comedy earned $33.636 million at 2,015 theaters.  Tim Story’s $12 million movie also broke the four-week #1 reign of The Hunger Games and prevented #2 The Lucky One from getting too lucky.  The Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling-starring romantic drama, like Man, charmed females (76%) but unlike Man, swept those under the age of 25 (52%) off their feet.  Nicholas Sparks’ seventh novel to screen grossed $22.518 million at 3,155 theaters.
